Narrative and Genre Unit: Reasearch

The Film which I am going to use as an example for my Narrative and Genre Unit is a Japanese cult film called "Death Note". It entails a young college student who plays god when he finds a notebook that when a persons name is written in it they will die from a heart attack within 40 seconds. Light Yagami (the main character) uses this notebook to kill off criminals worldwide, but special investigator L who has never left a case unsolved is hot on his tail. The film questions the audiences morality when the film asks what is justice?

The reason why I have chosen this film is because it shows how the main character changes from a normal college student to a villainous mass murderer and in some ways turns the audience against against him he is very much an anti-hero in the way he'll do anything reach his goal even if it means killing innocent people. The opposing character L becomes more of an opposite to Light but is fighting for his way of justice, when he uses extreme and questionable methods but is always able to find an answer.

The Genre of the film is a supernatural, detective-drama which is a genre which is not often touched upon yet  certain elements and codes and conventions leads us to believe that it does suit these genres.
